In CT 227 the material is put through a harsh wet shake in a mechanical agitator for two minutes. In ASTM C117 it is not standardized how vigorous you should be but only mentions that you should separate the -#200 particles from the rest of the sample. There are varied opinions on whether one is better than the other.
